A month end close checklist builder that leaves out what the client does not have

Tick what applies to one client and get their close as a checklist: what to ask the client for, the steps you take once it arrives, who owns each line and the working day it is due.

A generic close checklist is written for every client at once, so half of it never applies. A cash-basis sole proprietor has no accruals to reverse; a client with no stock has no count to send. This builder starts from the same list as our month end close checklist template and keeps only the lines this client needs, in the terms used in the United States: sales tax, and payroll reported to the IRS.

The days assume a close finished on working day 10. Pick a different close day and every line moves in proportion. Download the result as an Excel workbook or a CSV, with Owner, Due and Done columns ready to use.

The client's half, as a request list

The lines owned by the client are a request list, and that is the part FirmHello does. Send them on the first working day and the reminders go out until each statement and report arrives; every file lands in the client's vault. The close steps stay in your ledger and your own task list. More on how it works on the client portal for bookkeepers page.

Send the client's half once, and let it chase

Each line becomes something the client uploads against. Reminders go out on your schedule until the list is complete.

No card and no sales call. If you would rather tell us about your firm first, use the longer form.
